Hammacher Schlemmer History

Following Bell's success with the telephone, which led to a widespread use and a new market full of telephones as well as the typewriter, Hammacher begins buying and stocking parts and accessories for both devices. Continuing to ride the wave of innovation brought by the telephone, Hammacher & Co. is among the first 271 subscribers to Bell Telephone in New York City, appearing in the first telephone directory-although its name was misspelled.
