Product Story

This is the sweater expertly knitted in Scotland's lowlands using the genuine yet unmistakable Fair Isle design. The pattern's origin is traditionally thought to have derived from interactions with Spanish sailors who frequented the island--situated between the Shetlands and the Orkneys--later made famous when the then Prince of Wales wore a sleeveless sweater bearing the Moorish pattern in 1922. Consisting of bands of geometric shapes--one of the hallmarks of the original technique--the sweater is made from Shetland wool in Hawick in the famous Borders Region, famous for its knitwear. It provides comfort as well as exceptional heat retention without excessive bulk thanks to the fine fiber quality of the wool, which owes its tenderness to the wavy, tightly crimped 3" staple lengths.
