Hammacher Schlemmer Introduces The 12 MPH Electric Skates
New York, NY, February 19, 2015 - Continuing its 167-year history of offering the Best, the Only and the Unexpected, Hammacher Schlemmer introduces The 12 MPH Electric Skates, a pair of motorized roller skates that propel a wearer at up to 12 MPH.
Each skate's 6"-diam. front wheels are powered by 50-watt electric motors that operate when a rider tilts forward on the toes to accelerate or back onto the heels to gently brake. A smaller 1"-diam. wheel in the rear provides a smooth ride with twin spring shock absorbers.
"Their lithium-ion battery provides plenty of power for travel across a school campus or to a local cafe," explained Hammacher Schlemmer's General Manager Fred Berns. "Unlike typical roller skates, the footplates on these pivot down so that your foot can come into contact with the ground for walking, allowing you to roam a neighborhood festival without taking them off."
Each skate secures small and large feet with step-in footplates and strap bindings similar to snowboard boots and they support riders up to 275 lbs.
