Based upon the original distiller invented by the “father of perfume distillation,” Alkindus, during the 9th century in what became present-day Iraq, this model uses the same principles of alchemy for extracting essential oils from one’s preferred herbs.

"You fill its cucurbit with water and your preferred herbs, such as lavender or peppermint," explained Hammacher Schlemmer's General Manager Fred Berns."The oil lamp heats and boils the liquid to produce an oil vapor that condenses, cools, and converts into a concentrated distillate."

It is made from precisely machined valves to control vapor flow and is secured to a walnut base with steel supports; aromatic oil is collected in a cooling cup.
