The Instant Read Infrared Surface Thermometer

This pyrometer uses an infrared beam to detect radiant energy and measure the surface temperature of a sauté or grill grate, allowing you to instantly determine when a cooking surface is sufficiently heated for optimal searing of steaks or for the gentle browning of pancakes. A built-in laser guide displays a red dot on the object being measured, and the thermometer has a distance-to-spot ratio of 9:1, ensuring accurate readings from up to 5' away. A backlit LCD shows temperature readings, and the thermometer has a range of -58° F-1,022° F--twice the breadth of typical infrared thermometers--and an accuracy within ±3.6° F. More than just a kitchen instrument, the device has other household applications such as determining whether warm or cool air is escaping through windows and doors.
