The Handmade Turkish Backgammon Set

Imported exclusively by Hammacher Schlemmer, this intricately detailed backgammon set is crafted in Turkey using time-honored techniques that date back to the origins of the game in 3000 B.C. Skilled woodworkers painstakingly hand cut and assemble elaborate patterns using iridescent manufactured mother of pearl within a combination of beech, eucalyptus, orange, walnut, and rose wood. The board is then lacquered with at least four coats of high-gloss varnish to preserve the natural wood grain. Each backgammon set requires a full week to complete and no two are alike. The reverse side of the board can be used for checkers. The beechwood-framed set folds compactly. Includes handmade playing pieces and instructions. Ages 8 and up.
