Product Story

Inspired by Johann Uttenthaler's 1969 invention for gliding down the slopes of the Bavarian Alps, this zipfel bob combines the speed of Olympic luge racing with the effortless fun of coal shovel racing. Used in annual World Series competitions in Europe, riders sit with the joystick-like handle between their extended legs. It glides in a straight line on downhills, thanks to two molded rails on the underside of its slightly concave, high-density polyethylene frame that also allow you to make slalom-like turns in either groomed snow or fresh powder simply by leaning. Stopping is as simple as digging your heels in the snow. It only weighs 3 1/2 lbs., so transporting it up hills after each run is easy. Supports up to 250 lbs. Ages 5 and up. Made in the U.S. 20" L x 13" W x 14" H. (3 1/2 lbs.)
