Product Story

Inspired by the iconic reflective stage light invented by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo in 1907, this is the reproduction of the Fortuny moda lamp that revolutionized theatrical lighting. Dubbed the "Magician of Venice" by his contemporaries, Fortuny invented the indirect lighting methods that are still prominent on cinematic and photographic sets today. Made in Rome, Italy, the  lamp's 500-watt incandescent bulb projects brilliant beams of light against the shade's white interior. The shade diffuses and reflects the light to highlight artwork or cast a warm glow onto a wall. The Fortuny moda lamp's tubular steel tripod frame and concave cotton shade represent the early modernist emphasis on industrial materials, functional style, and the spatial role of objects. It telescopes from 6 1/4' to nearly 8' high, and the shade swivels 360º and tilts to enable easy adjustment of the light projection angle. Plugs into AC. 74 3/4"-94 1/2" H x 36 3/4" W. (54 lbs.)
