Product Story

This is the ivy cap hand-tailored from linen spun by world-famous Magee of County Donegal, Ireland. Only available from Hammacher Schlemmer, its 78% linen/11% wool/6% polyamide/5% silk blend is woven in Ireland with classic Magee sensibility, renowned since 1866 for its fine, handwoven tweeds. The cap is handmade in Europe by Wigens, the 110 year-old Royal Warrant haberdasher to the King of Sweden, and widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest hat makers. A staple of casual dress since 1571 when an Act of Parliament compelled men to wear “flat caps” on Sundays and holidays, the ivy cap still retains favor among English gentlemen today. Sizes M (hat size 7 1/4; head circumference (22 3/4"), L (7 3/8; 23 1/4"), and XL (7 1/2; 23 1/2"). (2 1/2 oz.)

How To Determine Your Hat Size

To get the proper fit in a hat, we recommend that you measure your head to determine your proper hat size.

How to Measure Your Head
  • Use a good quality tape measure, such as those used for sewing, to achieve the most accurate measurement.
  • Wrap the measuring tape around your head. The tape should be placed where you want the hat to rest, usually 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch above the top of your ears. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, the bottom of the tape should touch your eyebrows while positioned straight around your head. Don't pull the tape too snugly or your hat will fit that tightly.
  • Once you've positioned the tape exactly where you want it, measure to the nearest one-eighth inch, or three millimeters.
  • Measure your head a second and third time to ensure accuracy.
