The Handmade Authentic Kilim Rug (Large)

We traveled to Turkey to find these exquisite handmade kilim rugs, each of which is crafted in the homes of women in the villages of the Esme region. The art of kilim weaving dates back 3,500 years and is handed down from generation to generation. The 100% wool rugs are used by village women in the home, but also as a part of dowries. Each woman incorporates design elements that represent different events in one's life such as birth, and marriage, the rugs can even communicate everything from love to annoyance. In a pattern exclusive to Hammacher Schlemmer, the rug communicates good luck to a family in regards to protection, long life, and fertility. Though our rugs show similar patterns, each varies slightly to reflect the emotions, thoughts, and stories of the women who weave them. The rugs are colored with a 100% equivalent of vegetable and root dye. The handmade art can be placed on the floor or used as a wall hanging. Dry clean only. 5' x 8' Kilim Rug. (9 1/4 lbs.)
