The Lady's Washable Merino Wool Poncho

This is the lady’s poncho made from 100% merino wool that has been treated to allow machine washing and tumble drying, available only from Hammacher Schlemmer. Considered one of the softest natural fibers in the world, merino naturally wicks away moisture and creates a body warmth barrier against the cold, making this poncho ideal for wear during a day of cool-season shopping. The poncho’s enveloping design covers the full back, chest and upper arms while leaving the hands free to turn pages while curling up with a book in a drafty room. The wool is treated prior to the spinning process with an oxidative pre-treatment followed by a special polymer that swells during washing to mask the scale edges of the wool’s fibers, preventing them from felting—the result of washing commonly available wool garments. Withstanding multiple washes without fading or shrinkage yet retaining its “as new” appearance, this poncho’s merino is made from extra-fine, 70-micron count fibers into a soft, two-ply wool yarn that provides a luxurious hand.
