Product Story

This is the telescope that can find objects in space automatically, thanks to its unique handheld computer controller which requires only the entry of your closest city for complete automatic bearing and alignment calculation. The controller has a database of nearly 40,000 celestial objects, including stars, galaxies, planets, and nebulae, and can also be programmed with up to 200 more user-defined objects. A tour option finds the best objects within the visible hemisphere, providing astronomical coordinates, size, and brightness information on the controller's backlit LCD screen. A motorized dual-axis drive system and nine-speed servo motors track quickly and fluidly. Manufactured by Celestron, the telescope comes with a sturdy field tripod and, at 11 lbs., is easily transported. Though its automated features make the telescope an ideal choice for weekend stargazers, the optics are formidable enough for the most discerning astronomer: a Maksutov-Cassegrain design makes the most of available light to deliver crisper, cleaner images than many telescopes of larger aperture. It has a 1,325 mm focal length that yields a maximum usable magnification of 240X, yet has a generous 52 1/2' field of view at 1,000 yards. Precision optics incorporate BK-7 glass and an oversized Pyrex primary mirror. Serial input/output port allows connection to a PC, allowing you to program your own celestial tours. Requires eight AA batteries. 32" H x 15" L x 10" W. (21 lbs.)
