The Low Heat Halogen Floor Lamp

One of the finest floor lights we've found, this lamp provides a tight, focused beam to illuminate a page clearly and brightly without too much ambient glow (which might disturb a sleeping partner), or too much uncomfortable heat. Even though it uses a halogen bulb, the lamp gets no warmer than a mug of coffee, thanks to its special dichroic design that employs coated glass to reflect heat back and away from the direction of light. This helps keep the lamp head cooler to the touch, so the lamp can be moved precisely where you want it without discomfort. A dimmer switch allows you to select your preferred brightness with a touch. The gooseneck is highly flexible for precise 360° positioning, yet is strong enough to hold its place without drooping. The weighted base is a sturdy, flat disk with plenty of heft to keep the lamp stable; it rests on soft rubber feet that grip smooth surfaces without scratching. The lamp is made by a company that started out providing lights for use in demanding environments such as lifeboats, laboratories, the space shuttle, and other industrial applications.
