Product Story

Available only from Hammacher Schlemmer, this is the replica of the famed Hunterston brooch, a pre-Viking artifact housed in the National Museum in Edinburgh. Discovered in the 1830s near Hunterston on Scotland’s west coast, archaeologists believe the pseudo-pennanular original was crafted in the 8th century within the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Dál Riata. Its advanced filigree metalwork suggested a wealthy owner of great importance, as only one of high status could afford such a luxury. Updated for modern wear, this Scottish-made replica is hand-cast in gleaming sterling silver, meticulously reproducing the original’s intricately patterned Celtic latticework and Christian iconography in painstaking detail. A modern pin on the back fastens to garments allowing the decorative fixed pin to remain on display. 2 1/2" Diam.
