Product Story

This is the same high-quality lamp that Sir Winston Churchill kept at his bedside in the cabinet war room, and which has earned a place in the Design Museum of London for its notable shape, fine construction, and time-tested durability. The lamp is made by Best and Lloyd, manufacturers of superior lighting since 1840, and supplier of lamps to such locales as Number 10 Downing Street and, more recently, to Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace. The lamp we offer was designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best (son of a Best and Lloyd founder), who studied at the Bauhaus school of design, which celebrated functional structure, without losing aesthetic sensibility. The lamp has been continuously produced since 1930 without compromise in the construction techniques or quality materials that make it so reliable. Few lamps have the flexibility displayed by this one: the shade pivots up and down on its crook-shaped arm, while the arm itself rotates smoothly 360° around the upright axis, and also tilts back and forth for precise placement. The base and shade are aluminum with a chrome-plated frame; plugs into AC via a 6¿ cord. UL and CSA listed. Adjusts from 20 1/2¿ H to 32¿ H. Base is 8 1/4¿ Diam. (6 lbs.)
