Product Story

This is the felling axe made in the United States that holds the sharpest, strongest edge in the world. By Council Tool from Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, makers of axes since 1886, the 4 lb. axe head is forged using five generations of experience from 5160-grade alloy steel that provides superior edge-holding ability and toughness. It is tempered to a Rockwell C hardness rating between 50-54, providing a hardened zone that extends 1 1/2" from the bit for maximum edge durability. Specially designed for felling trees, this axe has a broad 4 1/2" face with a wedge-shaped bit that "bites" wood without glancing out and narrow cheeks that resist sticking in wood after a cut. Hafted with top-drawer American hickory, hand-selected for superior grain and density that absorbs and dissipates shock, the handle's throat fits the hand for sure, efficient hewing, its belly tapers for a flexible, whip-like swing, and its end knob ensures a constant grip. With buckled leather sheath. 35" L. (6 lbs.)
