Few indoor pleasures ask as little as Ziva paperwhites: traditional narcissus bulbs that will bloom in garden soil or, just as readily, indoors in a bowl with a few stones and water.
Their flowers are a brilliant, crisp white, a shade that has been said to glitter in sunlight, and their heady, sweet fragrance is the part people remember. A dish of them makes a gracious addition to an entry table or kitchen counter, and an equally welcome present for a friend short on garden space.
Paperwhites have been beloved by gardeners for generations, and with good reason: they are among the easiest bulbs to grow. Six bulbs fill a single container; 24 with a planting tool can supply several pots and the flower bed besides. We suspect the scent alone will earn them a standing invitation.
