Plain white tulips are lovely. Streak them with purple-blue flames and they become something else entirely. Blueberry Ripple opens in mid spring with an egg-shaped bloom held high on a tall, dramatic stem.
Give it a sunny spot and it rewards you with plenty of flowers. That generosity makes it a natural for mass plantings, and it pairs handsomely with darker tulips for a designer look. It’s also easy to grow in containers, along borders and in cutting gardens, so a few stems can come indoors for a vase.
Start with 20 for a pot or two by the door, or 40 for a sweep of color along the front of the house. Mid spring is about to get a ripple of its own.
