Every circle of friends has someone who starts asking about spring before the holidays are over. Glory of the Snow is a lovely way to answer them. These little bulbs bloom early in the season, ahead of nearly everything else, with starry six-petaled blossoms in blue and white.
They’re easygoing guests in almost any setting: happy in full sun or partial shade, just 4 to 6 inches tall, and charming in clusters, in containers or as a low ground cover. The flowers last for several weeks, and the bulbs multiply on their own, so the welcome grows warmer each year. Deer and rodents tend to leave them be, too.
Plant them in fall. Order 30 for a gift-sized planting, or 60 to split with a neighbor’s yard. They’ll be the first good news of the season.
