A bare candle is lovely right up until someone reaches across the table for the rolls. Drafts nudge the flame, sleeves wander close, and the evening picks up a small undercurrent of worry.
These two lanterns enclose each flame. Three glass sides and a hinged glass door with a securing latch surround it, all held in a sturdy steel frame finished in antique bronze. Open the door, set a candle inside, and latch it shut. Each lantern stands 16" tall on a base about 8" by 6", so it fits comfortably on a console table or a bookshelf.
With a pair, the arrangement takes care of itself: one at each end of the mantel, both flanking an entryway, or side by side on the floor beside the fireplace. A large loop at the top also lets either one hang from a sturdy hook. The warm light stays, and the worry goes.
