A globe is the simplest way to make an unimaginable planet comprehensible. Countries become neighbors, oceans gain proportion, and a child can discover that “the other side of the world” is not some amorphous place, but one that can be explored with a fingertip.
This illuminated version adds some theater to the lesson.
