The Christmas ball began life as a hanging trinket, light enough for one bough and small enough to cup in a hand. Here the idea has grown up and moved off the tree: a 34-inch ornament built around Santa’s sleigh, about 26 inches long and 24 inches wide.
Forty-four multicolor LEDs light it in festive color, and a built-in player runs through eight holiday tunes on a continuous loop. Hand-painted details reward anyone who leans in for a closer look, which, given the music, will be most of your guests.
It draws its power from a wall outlet and is meant for indoor rooms or a covered porch. Where an earlier age hung its ornaments and hoped someone noticed, this one makes an entrance all by itself.
