Itβs rare for a garden piece to earn its place twice a day, but we think this one does. In the morning it is a feeder: a steel-coated lantern on a sturdy chain, with a shallow bowl at its base for small seed such as millet and foxtail.
At dusk it becomes something else entirely. A small solar panel on top gathers sunlight through the day, and when darkness settles in, 24 tiny LEDs wrapped around the inner cylinder light the mosaic glass from within for up to eight hours on a full charge. The copper version glows in rust red, warm orange, and cream; the pewter version in teal, kelly green, and bright white.
It arrives assembled, stands about 14 inches tall, and hangs from a shepherdβs crook, a tree branch, or the eaves. Choose a spot that gets direct sun, fill the bowl, and the lantern looks after its own evening schedule. The birds keep their hours, and the garden keeps its color well past theirs.
