This is the heirloom carousel horse hand-carved in 1902 by E. Joy Morris Carousel Company, renowned master-carvers of the world’s finest carousel horses. It is one of only two-dozen carved by E. Joy Morris from 1896 through 1902, an era known as the Golden Age of American carousel craftsmanship. Under the watchful eye of shop foreman Charles Leopold, the preeminent carousel carver of his generation, artists used mallets and chisels to carve blocks of basswood into the horse’s lifelike flowing mane, musculature, and alert stance.
